Mobile night watch: a new service for the dependent elderly

In a context where home care for the elderly is a growing priority, the Principality of Monaco with the Monaco Gerontological Coordination Centre (CCGGM) has launched a new service: a mobile night watch. New in the Principality, this service offers dependent seniors personalised assistance at night and provides support to their caregivers.

Designed to allow elderly people to continue to live at home comfortably, this new service offers night visits (up to 45 minutes in length), once or twice a night, based on recommendations established following a gerontological assessment by the CCGM.

Through a partnership with Government-approved care companies, qualified caregivers intervene to:
• secure the home (shutters, gas, etc.)
• ensure the person takes their prepared medicines
• calm night-time anxiety
• provide care and move the person as required (late bedtime, changing clothes, grooming)
• accompany the person to the toilet and provide appropriate assistance
This service not only assists seniors; it allows them to remain independent and reassured.

A welcome respite for caregivers
Caregivers, often called upon day and night, receive valuable support through this service. By taking over during the night, the night watch staff provide essential rest time for caregivers, thus reducing mental and physical fatigue.

A proactive and exemplary approach
Led by the CCGM and the Monegasque Government, the initiative illustrates Monaco’s commitment to ageing at home with dignity. Beneficiaries of the autonomy allowance who have a general home help package that includes daytime visits also qualify for the service.

“This innovative service makes Monaco a model of support for the elderly. It combines innovation, humanity and respect for the life choices of seniors,” said Mr Philippe Migliasso, Senior Healthcare Executive and Administrator and developer of the service.
