New health measures in the Principality of Monaco

The Prince’s Government today announced new health measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures will remain in force until 20 December (start of the Christmas holidays).

1 - From tomorrow, Saturday 27 November: masks must once again be worn outside at all times throughout the Principality.

2 - From Monday 29 November:

  • The validity period for PCR tests will be reduced from 72 to 24 hours.
  • Home working is strongly recommended in the private and public sectors.
  • Stand-up cocktail receptions will be suspended and drinking or eating while standing will be prohibited at all venues.
  • Dancing and karaoke will be suspended in those venues which offer them.
  • The requirement to wear a mask while engaging in indoor sports (except competitions) and school sports is being reintroduced
  • School swimming lessons are suspended
  • Combat and contact sports are also suspended.

Also from Monday 29 November, the measures initially planned for 1 December will be introduced:

  • Everyone must present a valid health pass to eat or drink inside or on the terraces of restaurants or bars. This also applies to young people aged 16 to 18 years.
  • A health pass will also be required for access to performance venues and meeting spaces where there are more than 300 people present. This includes the Opera, Théâtre Princesse Grace and the Grimaldi Forum.

3 - Given the resurgence in the epidemic, from 15 December, the Government is planning to extend the requirement to show a health pass to anyone working in locations where public access requires a health pass. This covers restaurants, bars and nightclubs, as well as the Louis II Stadium, Grimaldi Forum and the Opera.

In accordance with the usual approach to consultation, the Government has discussed these measures with the National Council through the Joint Committee, and continues to consult with employers’ representatives in major sectors of the economy as well as employee unions.
