Seasonal flu vaccination gets under way

With COVID-19 currently continuing to circulate at a high level, the Prince’s Government strongly recommends getting a flu vaccine. It is important to make every effort to limit as far as possible the compounding effects of the two viruses, which may be circulating at the same time.

Three members of the Prince’s Government received their seasonal flu vaccinations on Thursday 15 October, as the vaccination campaign got under way.

To ensure that the vaccination programme is as effective as possible given the specific circumstances of the health crisis, priority is being given to those who are most vulnerable on the basis of their health. What this means is that healthcare professionals authorised to administer the vaccine will initially do so only for Monegasque patients or residents aged over 65 years with a certificate issued by the social security funds, and to healthcare staff.

In practice, patients aged over 65 years have automatically received a voucher for treatment from the social security funds (SPME or CCSS). This voucher entitles them to the issue of a free vaccine from a chemist’s. Patients can then choose to have the vaccine administered by the chemist, or by their regular family doctor or a private nurse.

The Prince’s Government will shortly provide information about the arrangements for vaccinating other groups.

More information is available on the official website of the Prince’s Government.
