ABOUT US

Operating under the authority of the Department of Health Affairs (DASA), the team comprises:

  • two doctors working in tandem with two nurses;
  • a nurse who makes specific visits to carry out dental examinations
  • a secretarial office

OUR ROLE

  1. Screening:
    • sensory impairments (vision, hearing)
    • static disorders
    • physiological problems, possible somatic complaints, etc.
    • growth monitoring
  2. Monitoring the health of pupils in conjunction with their general practitioner
  3. Identifying psychological problems and situations where pupils are in distress
  4. Public health: preventing obesity, risky behaviours, etc.
  5. Child protection

We are bound by medical confidentiality in everything we do.

 

ASSESSMENTS AND CHECK-UPS

Routine check-ups are carried out at primary and secondary level throughout the school year* by the Medical Inspectorate for Schools’ team of doctors and nurses, in conjunction with school nurses.

Assessments at the request of teachers, head teachers, the school psychosocial team, parents, doctors (paediatricians, specialists, etc.) and other health care professionals (speech therapists, psychologists, etc.).

Educational support through two mechanisms:

  • Personal Support Plan (PAI): for children with a chronic illness or specific learning difficulty
  • Individual School Integration Plan (PIIS)

Monitoring of specific situations in conjunction with the various partners supporting a pupil: parents, the Department of Education and therapists.

 

SPECIFIC ASSESSMENTS

These assessments are for children in the first and final years of their nursery education.

Using appropriate tools (Eval Mater test, ERTL 4, ERTLA6, BSEDS 5/6, BREV, oculomotor tests, etc.), the aim is to assess and test for language impairments and psychomotor problems that could hold a child back at school.

Following these assessments, the Medical Inspector for Schools may advise and refer you to have an additional tests carried out:

  • Speech therapy*
  • Orthoptic*
  • Psychomotor, psychological

and/or to see a paediatrician, general practitioner or specialist doctor.

* Reimbursed by the Monaco Social Security Funds: prescription from GP required.
