    Role

    Operating under the authority of the Department of Health Affairs (DASA), La Roseraie Psychiatry and Medical Psychology Unit is a public mental health service. Its role is to care for Monaco residents aged 18 or over who are suffering from a psychiatric illness or disorder that is stable or becoming stabilised, whether or not they are classed as a person with a mental disability.

    La Roseraie Psychiatry and Medical Psychology Unit seeks to provide psychiatric care outside the hospital setting and psychosocial rehabilitation. Patient care is provided through day services on site, at home or nursing homes in Monaco.

    A multidisciplinary team comprising various professionals:

    • A psychiatrist
    • A clinical psychologist and psychologists specialising in neuropsychology
    • A health care manager
    • A nurse
    • A care assistant
    • A medical secretary

     

    Organisation

    A RANGE OF CARE SERVICES BASED AROUND 5 KEY AREAS

    1. Clinical:
      • Individual consultations
      • Therapeutic activities (individual or group): psychoeducation, health prevention, art therapy, relaxation
      • Dispensation of long-acting antipsychotic injections
      • Nursing care
    1. Home care:
      • Occasional home visits: these are carried out on the basis of a medical prescription and with the explicit agreement of the patient. They aim to provide continuity of care following hospitalisation, prevent relapses and offer screening for patients with mental health problems.
      • Enhanced home visits Also carried out on the basis of a medical prescription and with patient agreement, these visits are aimed at patients who require support to increase their level of independence (more frequent visits, from two to four per week, longer visits, including during the evening and at weekends up to 7 p.m.).
    1. Family:
      • Initial family consultations, offering guidance and support for families.
      • Family therapy consultations.
      • Clinical work on situations monitored through the Children and Families Office at the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services (one day per week)
      • Psychoeducation group for families to help them better understand their relative’s illness.
    1. Geriatric psychiatry
      • Consultations and monitoring for the over 60s
      • Identifying mental health issues depending on the individual’s situation, producing a clinical assessment of psychiatric issues, suggesting appropriate support and assistance
      • Home visits
      • Visits to nursing homes in Monaco
      • Coordination of specific treatment (referral for memory assessment, medication, planned hospitalisation, etc.)
    1. Psychosocial rehabilitation and return to work

    Psychosocial rehabilitation care and activities are designed to help patients whose mental illness has been stabilised to make the best possible recovery. The ideal is to get them back to work as soon as they obtain the status of Disabled Employee.

      • Coaching in social skills
      • Cognitive remediation, which covers all rehabilitation techniques that aim to overcome or compensate for cognitive impairments (attention, memory, executive functions, social cognition, metacognition, etc.).
      • Improving autonomy and social abilities
      • Involvement in return to work preparations (assessment of abilities and skills) in partnership with the social and educational team from the Disability and Social Inclusion Office (DISH).

     

    Who can refer a patient to the Psychiatry and Medical Psychology Unit?

    • A doctor or hospital psychiatrist following hospitalisation
    • A private doctor and/or psychologist
    • The Disability Evaluation Committee (CEH) or the Disabled Employee Guidance Committee (COTH)
    • Government social work teams:
      • The Disability and Social Inclusion Office (DISH)
      • The Children and Families Office (DEF)
      • The Princess Charlene Children’s Home
    • The Monaco Gerontological Coordination Centre
    • The Police Department
    • The Monaco court system

    Public opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
