Tour de Chauffe 2023 : Come and travel on dialysis

Editor: Angeline Pena Prado Director of Nursing Care, Quality Engineer in charge of Quality and Safety of Care (Monaco Private Haemodialysis Centre CHPM)

From 8 to 27 May 2023, the "Tour de Chauffe 2023" was held at the MONACO Private Haemodialysis Centre (CHPM).

For the past three years, the CHPM has been organising this "Tour de France" themed sports competition for its dialysis patients: during their dialysis session, patients cycle on peddle exercisers through a series of stages.

This year, patients took an imaginary ride to the French overseas departments and territories, thanks in particular to their sponsor and Oceania Trail Running Champion Delbi Villa.

Setting off from Monaco, the patients then made their way to Nice for their first "warm-up" stage, before flying across the Atlantic to begin their tour. Aboard a submarine, canoe or boat, our patients spent three weeks discovering the islands and our distant lands.

To make the most of this exotic competition, regional quizzes were on offer to help discover the local culture, fauna, flora, and gastronomy.

Tour de Chauffe awarded prizes to the winners of the bike and quiz competitions: 6 patients were presented with a magnificent gift basket.

In total, our dialysis patients covered more than 400 km.

Tour de Chauffe also involved children from Papeete primary school in French Polynesia, who had written sports-themed postcards.  The CHPM handed them out during the Tahiti leg, along with heart-shaped messages written by children from the Trans Forme association, for patients awaiting transplants.

Tour de Chauffe 2023 has created a wonderful competitive spirit between the patients and the care teams, generating a real sense of 'get-up-and-go'. Physical activity in dialysis has made our patients more aware of the problems of a sedentary lifestyle and sarcopenia.

The CHPM would like to thank Justine Labreuche, a student on the master 1 STAPS degree, Nice, for organising and running this competition. Her enthusiasm and kindness encouraged the patients to get involved in the project.

The CHPM is now looking for a new sponsor for the 2024 edition:

If you're a well-known athletic champion:
Come and travel with us on dialysis!
