COVID-19: Use of health pass extended

The Prince’s Government would like to remind people that from Monday 23 August, the requirement to show a health pass to enter restaurants and bars will be extended to Monegasque nationals, residents and employees in the Principality aged 18 or over. This decision was announced on 27 July to enable people who wished to do so to complete their course of vaccination in time for its introduction.

Given the lower risk of infection outdoors, a health pass will not be required for Monegasque nationals, residents and employees who choose to sit on the fully open terrace of a restaurant or bar.

Furthermore, younger people are being granted an additional month: Monegasque nationals, residents and school pupils in the Principality who are aged 16 or 17 will not be required to show a health pass for access to restaurants and bars until 23 September.

These new measures, approved by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince at the suggestion of the Government following discussions with the President of the National Council, are an appropriate response to the evolving health situation.

The Prince’s Government would like to reiterate that vaccination is the most effective way of protecting yourself and others, and highly recommends that everyone get vaccinated. Vaccination helps to reduce the spread of the virus and its most serious symptoms. It is free and available to all Monegasque nationals and residents over 12 years of age, as well as to all employees working in the Principality.

The Government would also like to remind everyone that it is vital to comply with barrier measures, particularly the wearing of masks.

Together with vaccination and barrier measures, the health pass offers a way of continuing to protect people’s health while at the same time maintaining sustained economic activity. The health pass provides confirmation that the holder has been fully vaccinated or has recovered from COVID-19 at least two weeks but not more than six months ago, or that they have received a negative PCR or antigen test result within the last 72 hours.

The Government continues to monitor developments in the health situation extremely closely and will adapt measures accordingly, taking a pragmatic and measured approach, notably with regard to the conditions for use of the health pass.
